Parent & Child (Parent in the water)

on Shrimp/Kipper/Inia, Perch & Perch Plus
Shrimp/Kipper/Inia
(Shrimp (6-8 months) /Kippers (9-12 months) /Inia (13-18 months). No previous water experience needed. Children explore the water through songs and games. A trusted adult participates with the child.
Perch
In this class children will swim with a trusted adult and gain confidence in the pool. Beginning swimming and water safety skills are introduced.
Perch Plus
This class is for the 2-3 year old child that is comfortable in the swimming pool but not yet ready for preschool swim lessons or the 4 year old who is not ready to swim without a parent. Children will swim with both parent and instructor to gain further confidence

on Pike, Eel, Ray & Starfish
Pike
This is your child’s first swimming experience without a parent or guardian. This class will focus on water adjustment, kicking, blowing bubbles and paddling with assistance. Children will swim with and without floatation.
Eel
Children entering an Eel class should be comfortable paddling on their front, back and side 1 width of the pool with or without floatation. Stroke development, independent swimming and personal safety are emphasized.
Ray
Children entering a Ray class should have the ability to swim 1/2 length of the pool independently on both front and back. Children should be comfortable in the deep end of the pool. Continued stroke development and endurance are emphasized.
Starfish
Children entering a Starfish class should have the ability to swim 1 length of the pool without assistance as well as tread water for 15 seconds. Introduction to rhythmic breathing and symmetrical paddle. This class will focus on stroke refinement and endurance.
Youth Progressive Instruction
Ages 6-14 years. All classes include personal safety, personal growth, stroke development, water sports & games, and rescue.

Polliwog
This class if for the beginner swimmer with no previous water experience necessary. This class will focus on water adjustment, front/back float and paddle. Proper use of Instructional floatation devices will be stressed.

Guppy
Children entering a Guppy class should be comfortable swimming with their face in the water. Guppy is an advanced beginner class that will introduce rhythmic breathing and stroke development.
Minnow
Children entering a minnow level swim lesson should be able to swim 1 length of the pool on both front and back. In the minnow level, strokes are refined and endurance increased. Breaststroke and Elementary Backstroke introduced.
Fish
Children entering fish level swim lessons should be able to swim 2 lengths of the pool front crawl and backstroke in good form. Breaststroke and elementary backstroke are refined and Butterfly is introduced. Endurance and stroke refinement are stressed.
Flying Fish
Children entering flying fish swim lessons should be able to swim 3 lengths of the pool front crawl, backstroke and elementary backstroke in good form. Continued development of butterfly, breaststroke, starts and flip turns. Stroke refinement and endurance reinforced.
Shark/Porpoise
Children entering this class should be able to swim four lengths of the pool front crawl and backstroke. This class will continue working on flip turns, stroke refinement and endurance. Competitive swim strokes such as individual medley will be practiced.

We accomodate various swim levels. The YMCA teaches the character virtues of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility through competitive swimming.

LOW INTENSITY
Arthritis Aquatic Program
Our program is co-sponsored by the Arthritis Foundation, Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter. Participants will be led through a series of specially designed water exercises which enhance joint flexibility. 60 minute class. Water temp. between 83 and 85 degrees.
Water Walking
Various patterns of walking. 60 minute class.
MODERATE INTENSITY
Aquacise
A joint friendly strength and flexibility class performed in the shallow area of the pool. 60 minute class.
HIGH INTENSITY
Water Aerobics
This class is set to music and conducted in the shallow water. It includes toning and endurance work while increasing your flexibility. 60 minute workout.
Water Jogging
Deep water class with special flotation belt. Concentration is given to thigh, hip, and abdominal muscles. 60 minute class. (This class is not recommended for non-swimmers.)

Preschool & Youth
Seven, 30 minute, Private or Semi-private lessons. You may be seeking one-on-one instruction for many reasons; a fearful child, special attention to stroke development, or a child that just needs extra attention. Private swim lessons are a great way to create a positive experience while your child gains confidence in the water. Semi-privates must register at the same time and be close in swimming ability. Call extension 1122.
Teen & Adult
Seven, 30 minute, Private or Semi-private lessons. Semi-privates must register at the same time and be close in swimming ability. Call extension 1122.
RED CROSS LIFEGUARDING
The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training course teaches lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies and prevent drownings and injuries. Includes 1st aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
Pre-requisite: Must be at least 15 years old and pass an endurance swim of 300 yards including: front crawl and breast-stroke in a specific order. Swin 20 yards using front crawl or breast-stroke, surface dive to a depth of 7-10 feet, retrieve a 10 pound object, return to the surface and swim 20 yards on your back to the starting point with the object, climb out of the pool, within 1 minute 40 seconds.
Under 18? A legal guardian must attend the Pre-requisite Swim with the student. Bring proof of age: drivers license or birth certificate.
Note: 100% attendence is required and there are no makes-ups.

ADAPTIVE AQUATICS
Water time for children with physical and mental disabilities. Shallow end of the pool is available Saturdays from 11:15 AM - Noon. Must be accompanied by and adult at all times. Liability and guest waiver must be signed. Pool equipped with lift for those needing assistance into and out of the pool. Free to Community.
POOL SCHEDULE
Any changes will be posted on the locker room doors. For your safety and the comfort of all, please pick up a copy of our pool rules and guidelines. Lane restrictions are due to swim lessons, classes, parties, etc. If space allows, we will add fitness lanes for your swimming convenience.
Children 6 years & under must be supervised in the water. The supervision may be by an adult OR a teen with the adult on deck.
Children 7 years – 12 years do not have to be supervised in the water but require an adult on deck, unless they can’t pass the shallow water test. The supervising adult is permitted to provide their supervision in the water if they choose.
All children 12 years and under will be swim tested and marked with a colored wrist band. More details can be found in the aquatic brochure.
Fitness lanes may be used by our younger, serious swimmers during family swim times only. Swimmer must be working on endurance and be able to swim front and back crawl well.

SCUBA
An introduction to the fundamentals of safe SCUBA diving including insights on Marine Diving First Aid. Come to the first class and try it for free. S.C.U.B.A. certification is optional at the end of the 10 week course.
